KJB Digital Completes New Website for Surrey Minor Hockey Association
KJB Digital is pleased to announce the completion and launch of a new website for Surrey Minor Hockey Association (SMHA), creating a modern digital home for one of British Columbia’s longstanding minor hockey organizations.
The new website, surreyminorhockey.com, was designed and developed to make it easier for players, parents, coaches, volunteers and community members to find the information they need while giving SMHA a stronger platform for communicating with its membership.
More Than 50 Years of Hockey in Surrey
Founded in 1975, Surrey Minor Hockey Association has been part of the Surrey hockey community for more than five decades. Thousands of players have worn the Surrey jersey over the years, supported by generations of coaches, officials, volunteers, families and community partners.
Today, SMHA serves hundreds of players and families and provides opportunities for athletes across a wide range of ages and skill levels. The association emphasizes player development, teamwork, sportsmanship and creating positive experiences both on and off the ice.
That history and community role were important considerations in approaching the new website. The goal was not simply to give SMHA a more contemporary look, but to create a digital platform capable of serving a large, active hockey community.
A New Digital Home for SMHA
The project involved a significant redevelopment of SMHA’s online presence, with a focus on design, content organization, usability and long-term management.
The new site establishes a clearer information architecture around the areas most important to members, including registration, age divisions, returning and new players, financial assistance, player development, Rep hockey, coaching, volunteering, officiating, tournaments, governance and association news.
A dedicated History & Heritage section also gives SMHA a place to preserve and celebrate more than 50 years of hockey history, while the site's news capabilities provide the association with a stronger platform for keeping its community informed.
The result is a site that feels distinctly like Surrey Minor Hockey while making a considerable amount of information easier to navigate.
Built Around the Member Experience
One of the priorities throughout the project was considering the website from the perspective of the people who actually use it.
A parent visiting the site may need to determine the correct age division, understand registration requirements or find financial-assistance information. A coach or volunteer may be looking for resources. A visiting team may need tournament information. A new family may simply want to understand what Surrey Minor Hockey offers.
The new structure creates clearer pathways for each of these audiences.
That approach can be seen throughout the finished site, from dedicated division and age-group information through U21 to player-development resources and detailed tournament information.
Positive Feedback From the SMHA Community
The response following the launch has been extremely encouraging.
SMHA President Paul Grewal shared:

For KJB Digital, that feedback is particularly meaningful. A successful association website ultimately has to work for the community it serves—not simply look good when it launches.

The SMHA project reflects the way KJB Digital approaches website development: combining marketing strategy, communications, content development, design and digital execution rather than treating a website as an isolated technical project.
For an organization such as SMHA, the website is simultaneously a communications platform, information resource, registration gateway, community hub and representation of the organization itself.
Bringing those functions together into a cohesive digital experience was at the heart of the redevelopment.
